What is Bearcat?
Bearcat is a new dungeon mode similar to Wildcat and Tigercat. Except, instead of focusing on gaining SP, the focus is on gaining Digitalize Points.
How do I unlock it?
Unlocking Bearcat requires you to have completed at least one of the starting digitalize quests with Shiho in the Shinjuku Babel cathedral. Then you can start the quest to unlock Bearcat.
1. Accept the quest Another Door (アナザー・ドア) from Shiho.
2. Go to Ikebukuro and speak with the new NPC, Sakuragi, who is standing left of the entrance from Babel.
3. Run a normal Suginami Bronze and kill the Garm boss. Remember, you must land the killing blow to have it count.
4. Report to Sakuragi
5. Report to Shiho to complete the quest and unlock Bearcat
How is it difficulty-wise?
The official blog post introducing this mode stresses that the enemies in this run will require digitalize to defeat and it is a bronze run in name only. While they are the same types of mobs you will normally encounter in a Suginami Bronze instance, they have been greatly strengthened and possess large amounts of damage reduction-- something that sets them apart from the mobs in Home II that simply have high defensive stats. These mobs also have their mitama features, so demons like Kodama and Sudama will drain the four elements with Earth Spirit Guide. The good news for enhancers, though, is that demons are not debuffed to a Tigercat level, making it possible to run as a demon summoner.
What's the point?
Bearcat offers a new way to grind digitalize points and grinding is probably the best way to describe it, as gains are pretty small. Any digitalize state you enter while in the run has infinite duration, is canceled once you leave the run, and does not activate cooldown time. This allows you to bypass the time limit restrictions of digitalize and the need to reset digitalize cooldown time. Mobs killed while in a digitalize state will give you some digitalize experience to the race you have active with a bonus at the end of the run.
Like the normal Suginami Bronze, it is possible to summon Matador, but the summon orb cost is now five. The endchest here appears to be the drop location for the new Matador variant plug-in-- Red Brave Matador. This is a Matador with a new feature called Passionate Red, which gives +50 Critical, +25% Fire Affinity, and if MP is below 50%, +10% general close-range. After mitama, this feature becomes +100 Critical, +50% Fire Affinity, +25% Charge Affinity, and if MP is below 50%, +20% general close-range. He also gains Matador's normal mitama feature after mitama. This Matador can be trifused with the plug-in using Matador + Guede + Cu Chulainn. Variations can be used for all three in this fusion and luckily, the current log-in campaign will be giving out an Inexperienced Guede for logging in five days.
Which dungeons does this work in?
Presently, Bearcat can only be accessed through Suginami Bronze. However, the official blog promises that more are coming in the future.
What is a bearcat? Like seriously.
Bearcats are totally a real thing. And kind of cute.
(Also, I could have sworn I put this in guides. orz please feel free to move)
