Making this thread because I've been playing the game for the past month, on my phone device no less! Those with Android smartphones should definitly look into a Nintendo DS emulator called DraStic; it's very functional, never crashed on me and I'm 40 hours into the game. I'm an OCD completionist though, so I take it very slow, I explore the entirety of each map, catch all demons and fuse them. As of the moment my Demonic Compendium's about 40% complete, yay! It's my first playthrough and I'm going the Chaos route, hoping for a good ending! Sadly, my favourite demon so far was Law... Ameno Uzume. She changed a skill into "Frolic", which is a very fun ability. Even more fun, however, is having a party with the skills Dormina and Eternal Rest; pretty much feel invincible! Anyone else playing it?

Strange Journey is fantastic indeed. I've been playing SMT If... again -- also in Japanese, so maybe that's what motivated me to come over to CAVE's server -- and now I can see how many throwbacks to older SMT games Strange Journey has. Unfortunately, one of the least desirable aspects of the older games remains in SJ: the abysmally low Fiend encounter rate, so good luck to any and all completionists who play that game.
By the way, Chaos route is a great start on SJ because it unlocks good demons and isn't that difficult, but I suggest you leave a separate file or replay the game on any other alignment so you can check out the Final Bosses you'll miss on this path. Definitely worth a try.

Strange Journey is actually my favourite main-line SMT game... I really love all of them, and I think Nocturne is probably technically the "best", but SJ is just really special for me. Something about the atmosphere and the cast, the fact that it's so different from all the other games that are set in Tokyo... I like that a lot. I won't really say much else about why I like it because of spoilers, but yeah, I love it! I wish I had time to re-play it.

I don't like SJ mainly because of its low production value. DS is capable of 3D render, why not make the game in 3D like Final Fantasy 3? Or what's wrong by going Persona 2 style? It's sprite-based and works well. Sad to say that the only excuse for the graphic is that they can reuse most of stuffs, especially shameless reuse of old artwork. The first person view, while a homage to original Megami Tensei, struck me with motion sickness.
Also when you make uncute harpy, it's personal >_>
