Hello everyone, I am glad to have found this forum! After playing English-server Imagine for some years, I took time away due to complications with my chronic disability. I came back, looking forward to the mental distraction the game gives from my pain, only to find it has shut down! I'd really like to join you folks on the Japanese server, but I need some technical help, please. After following the instructions here on the forums very carefully, things seemed to be going well. I was able to register an account for the JP servers, updated completely, used AppLocale to start MegaTen with proper Japanese characters showing. I was then able to log into the game, to select a server, and to begin character customization. That's where I hit a brick wall. After picking my character's name and appearance, the button needed to progress doesn't light up, so I'm effectively stuck. I'm not certain of what to do, having so carefully followed the directions here, and it's frustrating because everything seems to be working so perfectly well otherwise. Any thoughts, please? If it helps, I run Windows 7.

Hey there, welcome to the forum! As for your problem, i remember having that problem myself at one point. I think it had something to do with the name itself. It has to be in japanese full width characters for it to properly work, i also think it cant be too long or too short, but i cant remember fully. Hope this helps!

Hi there, I'm willing to try anything at this point! Can you please explain to me, in computer-inept terms, how to do it using Japanese full width characters? That was one of those things I didn't grasp from the existing guides.

Try using this website (i've had a really hard time linking this to other people) www.linkstrasse.de/en/fullwidth-converterif the website dosent show, google "Japanese full width characters, and you should come across a converter website

Like Foxnull said, the problem is most likely the input method of your character name.
Depending on your operating system, it's probably possible to add a Japanese keyboard so you can toggle between various input methods (hiragana, half/full width katakana, etc.). If you would like your IGN to appear in Roman characters, you must type with full-width alphanumeric characters. You will not have to do this later in-game as your English keyboard will suffice.

Hi there, Just wanted to let you know that using the full width characters did the trick! I am in the game as Jason. Would love to join a friendly clan of Western folk, if anyone would have me. I've got plenty of playtime to give to said clan, and could no doubt use a hand in getting myself established all over again, too!

I would recommend applying to one of our fine clans here on the forum to get a good social network going. Good luck with your adventures in Megaten JP!

One thing I would ask is advice on communicating within the game.
I was just standing there after getting my Pixie, and some kind fellow said something before giving me a nice sword. I have no idea what he said and wanted to thank him, but I couldn't copy his name or copy his text for translation purposes. I felt a little rude!

Communicating with other players in-game can be a bit challenging. I think it's safe to say that Japanese players may be aware that players with names in Romaji probably do not speak Japanese, especially since we have a bit more of a presence on the server than we did before. Having said that, it's still important that we try to conform to the norms of social etiquette, such as refraining from speaking in Shout chat needlessly and such which can be strange to Western players.
As far as small interactions, it may be prudent to learn simple expressions. Off the top of my head I'm not sure any such thread exists on the forums.
Something like "I'm sorry, I do not speak Japanese"; "すみません、日本語を話しません"; "sumimasen, nihongo wo hanashimasen."
Keeping in mind that wo (を) in this case is pronounced as "o", but that's desides the point.
Of course- "Thank you"; "ありがとう"; "arigatou" Or more formal- "Thank you"; "ありがとうございます"; "arigatou gozaimasu"
I'll poke around a bit and maybe consider posting useful Japanese expressions.
