The measurement of how many days you have spent leveling up one aspect (attack) of your character
(According to some guy who built some guide once)
Expertise in Shin Megami Tensei Imagine: Online (Megaten) is essentially a "secondary" leveling system, I put secondary in quotes because using the same equipment and no demon assistance a level 3 (the lowest level possible) can *easily* (it might take some time depending on if the level 98 is a tank or not) kill a level 98 if the level 3 has maxed expertise and the level 98 has none. However, you must also use expertise to become a "crafter/enchanter", support, or efficient "beast tamer" (anyone and everyone is a "beast tamer" in this game), as well there is a limit to how much expertise you can put on any one character, this limit can be raised (check "Raising the Cap") but not indefinitely. This means that what Expertise you choose to raise and which to ignore define your class.
Personal note, I REALLY NEED A PICTURE HERE! Also don't forget to eventually put which skills raise which Expertise!
"Well that's nice and all but I just really want to know how to look at all my Expertise!" Just press "h" while your in game (default hotkey, sidenote you can customize your hotkeys in the system files), also you should note all the little grey boxes on the right hand side of the menu. Those mean that your not learning anything! ^^ BUT WAIT! Do not turn them all on just yet remember how I said there's a limit? well you can see that on the top of the list, as well as all your accumulated experience. Now after perusing this guide a little and figuring out which Expertise you want to raise you click on the square and use the related skills!

(On a side note what is even Cell-padding?)

p.s. these don;t count towards maximum expertise
Desription
Increases damage (a very odd expertise, quests are needed to unlock most of this expertise (also almost every build will probably get all the skills))
Tarot/Crystallize/SS (A link to a good synthesis guide wants to go here)
Essentially a mix of rush and magic... (rush attacks with an elemental type attack including almighty)
Increase in Mitama (guide to Mitama here) experience gain, and added ability is stronger? (Bonus from Mitama strengthening ("adding" Mitamas to rebirths) is even stronger)
aoe curse effects (although these curses are much better than those found in the curse magic expertise *cough*STONE*cough*)... On a side note corrosion hex is really just eh... So eh... Sleep instead of stone (stone has tarot adding 50% success... unsure if there is an equivalent for sleep) and -nda type effects instead of poison...
Somebody remind me to put links to explain what all that means later, kthnxbai
Super Armor (allows attacking no matter what), Heals (weaker but with a MUCH bigger range than those found in curative magic), pulse (aoe buff to attack and defense scaling on intelligence up to 140? (or is that changed as well?)), and SHIELDS!!! (not really "shields", they reflect damage while having the shielded person take no effect besides losing a shield "charge" which you put up to two of at once (place two at once but cannot go past two))
Stack bonus stats semi-infinitely (as many as you can hit in 20 seconds and all stacks go away after 20 seconds of initial hit) on playable characters (allied humans no demons)...
This spoiler hides my thoughts
It would be nice if they at least made something that was only a little broken, like the time refreshes every 15 hits (you can land 30 if you try) makes it completely broken for synthesizers (who really don't need this that much anyway) but only semi-broken for your typical dungeon run, can't really shoot yourself in the foot when trying to kill everything... although a party could go on for as long as the gunner has bullets I guess... but then a proper party wouldn't need this for anything except to maybe maximize an incense... but just my two cents
Mix of Long-range and magic and curse... (shot type attacks with an elemental and other type inheritance also inflicting various debuffs)... MORE INFO HERE
Toggles to do more damage (to a type of enemy) while taking more damage (stacks)... Side note the added damage to enemies takes the same position as pulses from enhancers (the only two buffs that can affect it), so the two get added (instead of multiplied like most other forms of additional damage) resulting in a smaller end product of damage than otherwise expected...
Increases Close-range DPS
Toggles to deal more Close-range damage while taking more damage (or something similar) or to become a tank with little to no DPS
Increase COMBAT damage
Make "Close-range" or "Long-range" weapons
Something about tops (shirts) and bottoms (pants) getting prettier

Skill related expertise-The majority of these may seem like OMG MUST HAVE... but in reality... (refer to Chain Expertise)
Name | Max Class |
Description | Indirect affect (Unless otherwise specified these only affect applicable skills in the Expertise) |
By Damage Per Second (DPS) I mean faster incantations and MOAR DA-MAGE!!!
Attack | 9 |
Most basic of the basic | More DPS |
Spin | 7 |
Attack as though you were a top (aoe close range attack) | More DPS |
Shot | 9 |
Basic ranged combat | More DPS |
Rapid | 8 |
"Last resort" ranged combat (most have shorter range than even rush) highest DPS in game | More DPS |
Guard | 9 |
Blocks attack and spin attacks | Faster incantation |
Counter | 9 |
Blocks and attacks, attack and rush attacks | ... More DPS... |
Dodge | 9 |
Avoid ("block") ranged combat (including aoe affects of magic (yes you can dodge explosions), also kisses...) | ... Faster incantation... but... have you ever used dodge? even the base one is *almost* instantaneous |
Curative Magic | 10 |
... As of a recent update (Date and version someone pwease?) Enhance class 6 (Divine Heal) makes this *completely* obsolete... here's a list of the ailments that Divine Heal misses | Faster incantation and more heal |
- Amnesia No info? I think this is just another stronger version of muddle that also stops Close-range combat (
does muddle also stop shot?Yes it does) - Berserk Unable to use spells, but Close-range damage goes up (is shot a spell? never had a gunner...) caused solely by Call of the Nine-Headed Dragon (also I think I've only ever been hit by this twice... ever)
- Blind No info? Don't let this page fool you Shibaboo deals bind (probably a typo)
- Freeze No info? Pretty sure this is just the short stun after an ice attack
- Happy No info? Increased incantations I think?
- Panic Increases cool-downs... Seems evil right? I've only seen this from enemies where it doesn't matter (Nakano) and one of the most evil dungeons in creation (Celu gold (now that I think about it is Celu gold even worth it anymore?))
- Plague No info? I think this is just a stronger version of poison (think toxic in Pokemon except... weaker... especially since you can easily heal and it runs out)... mildly annoying...
Destruction Magic | 10 |
Basic combat magic (has medium range between attack and shot) | Faster incantation more damage and shorter cool-downs |
Support Magic | 8 |
Magic... to... support people... | Faster incantation... (and maybe 5.5/7/8, do those scale off of Destruction or support?) |
Curse Magic | 8 |
Magic that... curses... enemies... | Faster incantation... (and maybe 5.5/7/8, do those scale off of Destruction or curse?) |
Talk | 2 |
Will you please be my slave?!? (jk I will learn to luff you in time... maybe) | Raises negotiation success... which is nice but... there are better and easier ways to raise success |
Threaten | 2 |
BE MY SLAVE!!! | Raises negotiation success... which is nice but... there are better and easier ways to raise success |
Taunt | 2 |
[You] YOUR MOTHER IS THE SON OF AN IRISH MAN! [Enemy(ies)] IS NOT ヽ(`Д´)ノ I'MA POKE YOU! *proceeds with poking* | Raises negotiation success... which is nice but... there are better and easier ways to raise success, also I've never seen anyone actually form a contract using taunt |
Summon | 2 |
COME HITHER MAH SLAVES!!! | Faster summon... |
