Good day to everyone here,
I've been trying to install SMT Imagine on my Windows 8 computer since my old laptop is puttering out of existence. I've followed the directions on the forums (changing the language and regions to Japan before downloading) but every time, I get garbled text on my install and my game is a mess, even after I delete everything from other attempts.
Can anyone help me on this?

The only way to fixed the jumbled characters is changing the unicode to Japanese. Changing the language or region do not fix this, nor is required to play this game
Windows 8 SHOULD be able to allow you to change unicoding of your system. If not, get a program called AppLocale and run the game in Japanese using that program as an admin.
If you choose to make a shortcut using this program, it'll create a shortcut in it's startmenu. Dunno how that'll work for Windows 8, just look around in AppLocales folder and you should find the shortcut this program creates.

NTLEA is an alternative since i've had problems getting applocale to work on win8 sometimes ymmv though

Thanks for the help, I managed to get on with the Unicode change (I had not changed it from English) but I will keep the NTLEA and the AppLocale tips. I find things easier to have the Japanese keyboard on hand, in case I need to talk to Japanese players

technically, you can hit alt+shift and change it to hiragana input (like type in ko-ni-chi-wa and get こにちわ) no need to get a whole new keyboard
