Hey there, I recently got into SMT, fell in love with it. Was dis-heartened to learn that the english servers for the MMO were shut down, but then I came across this. I'd like to try to get into it, but there is the obvious language barrier, so with that I ask: How do you guys manage? Also, it appears the guide to set up an account and get into the JP servers is a bit outdated (All I see is the imageshack frog ). I'd love to start gaming and playing with guys, but yeah, any advice? I mean, I guess I could start some Rosetta stone, but yeah. thanks!

I use a combination of muscle memory from EN days, the Google Translate app, Google Chrome for all the browser based needs, and guessing on options (lol). It also helps with a clan, since most likely people have already done things maybe you need to do and can help you out with things you don't understand.

I started playing recently as well. I know what you mean by getting past the language barrier; it's pretty difficult to navigate around and find places. It's even more difficult to figure out what NPCs are saying and stuff. But people here on this forum are very helpful. If you need help, you can ask here. You can go look at the wiki, too. The pictures there really helped me figure out the game's interface. (haha, to be honest, i'm really tempted to start learning Japanese just to read what's going on in game, but I'm not sure I can do it. ^^;; ) EDIT: Also, if you are going to install IMAGINE, here's a link to a different guide.

I'm pretty good at "absorbing" languages, also been in contact with japanese for years through videos & blogs. I'm not studying it (though I'd love to) but I can pretty much read anything in hiragana/katakana and a few kanjis but I still can't communicate with other jp players if they start using complex kanjis >< It'd probably help to memorize the basic alphabets (hiragana for native jp words, and katakana which is used for english words) if you manage you're already on the right road~ You can try this in the mean time (haven't tried it myself but found it) cutebananapeel.tumblr.com/englishpatch

Well I guess most of us felt that way sometime But after 1 month you get used to it, I can barely notice it's in japanese anymore I learned Katakana to figure out most of the items in game, it's kinda easy to learn and VERY helpfull <3 kanaquest.com/lessons/images/media/katakana-chart.gifIf you learn all those thingies, you'll be able to understand a lot of stuff (not all though, since we'd still miss hiragana and kanjis, but it does helps)

Ah, thank you guys! Vooky, do you have any more charts like that, that may help? I'll be sure to install the english patch, but I have a second monitor hooked up and I could probably put a lot of various translation charts and stuff on there to help.

Common Sense, Trial and Error, Disturbing EN Players who understand JP for translation, Google Translate App and removing the mindset "JP Server is so hard because its all japanese aaaand I want my old gears back before I play" lastly saying "Because of Language barrier" (Don't be a kid seriously). I think that's all the things you'll need to do to manage.
