This is kinda-off topic.. maybe not Anyway, I haven't been a loyal fan of the megaten series, in fact Imagine is my very first SMT videogame I've known several guys that played SMT2, 3, 4 etc but none of them can really give me an answer to this question: What caused the demons to spawn in to our world? Why is Ichigaya all magma-ish? I understand there was a war.. but I don't know if it was humans vs demons, and how it came to this point where the humanity needs to find shelters? Does anyone know how all this started?

You can easily learn about this by reading summaries of the first game. Imagine serves, more or less, as an interquel between the 1st and 2nd game. I say more or less because being an online game it's debatable if it fits on the timeline or not.

I've read the Shin megami tensei summary, it talks about a portal to the demonic world getting openned, USA bombing Japan but... it doesn't say HOW it got opened, was it mankind?

That must have been one lazy summary you found. The wikia entry on the game has the plot fairly well detailed.

(going off of the books here, and I only made it through the first one I believe) A genius boy who was the reincarnation of Izanagi created a program that could bring demons into our world, which then ran rampant. I believe Loki was the first one he brought out and lost control. He and a classmate, the reincarnated Izanami then got sucked into the program. In their past lives, she died and he vowed to find her again in the next life. After getting sucked in she once again....sort of died, I think? Or went into a magic coma or whatever. And he left to go on a search with Cerberus to bring her back. That's as far as I remember. There were three parts to the Digital Devil Story that all of the SMT universe stems from, then the vast spin offs in the games are supposedly all connected but different universes and time streams and stuff. Even Catherine is supposedly sort of connected. But because of this, all the games have different versions of how the demons get into our world. The one thing that is usually constant is simply that they come through a program of some sort or there was a huge catastrophe. In the main line up of games, I believe SMT online: Imagine comes after Nocturne, the 3rd game in the official main series. In Nocturne, the world as we know it ends and the main character become part demon himself which is what allows him to fight and/or befriend the demons he meets.
This is all I know about the series in general, even though I own most of the games that have come out in America I have not had time to play them all so my knowledge of details is sketchy at best. It doesn't help that the SMT timeline/multiverse/whatever is crazy to understand even for people who have played them all.

This is what I understand from various sources of information:
Sometime before Shin Megami Tensei, Steven managed to create a Terminal system that allowed instant travel from one point to another, but one day he accidentally connected to the Expanse/Abyss/Makai/whatever and summoned demons into the world. He ended up being injured during that time, which is why he's in a wheelchair. When the JSDF Commander, Gotou, found out about this, he wanted to use the demons from the Abyss to combat the Thousand Year Kingdom plan the American Army under Ambassador Thorman was heading. Steven invented the Demon Summoning Program to combat the demons and recruit them. Many things happen, 30 years pass, the Messians and Gaeans begin fighting for control over Tokyo, and the Great Flood is unleashed. After all that, the events of IMAGINE take place.
After the conflict between the forces of Law and Chaos was quelled by a great Hero and the demons were supposedly suppressed, the survivors banded together and created communities, like Home III, and worked to rebuild Tokyo. A group known as the Seven Philosophers were formed to lead the people and they began work on a large tower in Shinjuku to act as the main base for humanity. Unfortunately, once the tower was finished, the Obelisks in Nakano, Shibuya, and Ichigaya appeared. The strange power from the Obelisks ended up changing the environment in those areas (Nakano became a forest, quartz crystals appeared in Shibuya, and lava began flowing in Ichigaya), but more importantly, demons began to re-emerge. People blamed the construction of the tower for the emergence of the Obelisks and demons and started calling it "Shinjuku Babel." Eventually, most of the Seven Philosophers kind of left. Judah founded Arcadia in Shinagawa as the home base of the Order of Messiah, Doukan founded Souhonzan in Ueno as the base for the Ring of Gaea, and Lady Justice founded Protopia as a home for both Innocents and humans. Kuzaka the Wise, the inventor of the Innocents, is also missing.
Somewhere down the line, since IMAGINE is the interim between SMT and SMTII, the Messians somehow manage to take over and get rid of everyone who opposed them. They eventually founded the Tokyo Millennium and then the events of SMTII occur.
I don't really know much more about certain things in IMAGINE, since I'm assuming that some important things are mentioned in the acts after Act 16, which don't have any English translations. I don't know why the Obelisk caused the demons to re-appear, what that Kingdom Crystal Setsu wanted actually does, or what Setsu's plans even were that had to involve the Fallen Angels and stuff, but I really wish I knew more about what happened.
I'm not sure if that helped at all, but that was all I knew.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I think the shelters mostly started because much of Tokyo became inhospitable after the flood, so people who survived the Law and Chaos war and the flood ended up making their underground communities wherever the were able.

Yeah, same here. I wish I knew more stuff about things post Act 16. I'm about to start on Act 17 if I can get some friends to help me, so maybe I can screen shot some dialogue stuff and cutscenes and see if one of my friends can help me figure out what they say. It might help, especially since a lot of videos of gameplay I see for IMAGINE completely ignore Act 17.
