Been sitting on this one for a while since it wasn't too practical, but with the influx of cup demons, its slightly more relevant.
The way in-combat detection works is slightly weird, but exploitable if you understand it. The general basics is, when either you or your demon attacks, is attacked, or casts a nontargeted aoe attack (eg erosion hex or cup), a 10 second counter is put on BOTH you and your partner (easily identified by the start of combat music). The counter for your partner will reset back to 10 if they attack, are attacked, or cast a nontargeted aoe and the same goes for you and your own counter as well. Typically combat ends when both you and your partner's counter reaches zero. If either counter reaches zero while the other is not, you will stay in combat (although your counter will remain at zero).
The exploit though, is that by canceling any spell or action when your in-combat counter is at zero while your partner's in-combat counter is NOT at zero, you can leave combat while keeping your partner in combat. Once in this state, your partner is free to attack without putting you back in combat.
Essentially your partner is free to attack without slowing you down. (this works best if your partner has the Laguz mitama bonus so they can keep up with you). Your partner does need to stay in combat to keep this effect though so they either need to attack or cast cup/ero hex at least once every 10 seconds.
It's not as effective as actual Godspeeds, but for runs with very periodic encounters (eg celu or H2), it can be almost as good (and you don't need to spend 400m).
A final interesting note is that unsummoning or casting a fusion spell will immediately set your patner's in-combat counter to zero.
