With the recent announcement from CAVE, closing down the server and rendering all services null, I decided to bring up an old project back from a couple friends of mine. The project is the private server for SMT Imagine.
I need to lay down some details and some answers however.
As of now, we had no way to actually get any of the server files. What we are doing is coding it with our own files and re-creating the content within them. This is a very long and arduous process since we are not able to seize the files. This comes with it's own benefit: The creation of custom content for the game. With this, we can shape the game however we want it. Whether it is new quests, new NPCs, new demons, new gear, or even new MAPS if there are people with the talent to pull it off. We're going to code the files from scratch, but as I said before, this will take a long time.
here's a screenshot.

Now, we started this a long time ago, slowly working on it overtime, but lost interest for various reasons. (IRL issues mainly, as well as updates providing conflicts as a growing hassle.) Since this announcement is the end, we decided, let's bring it back, and announce it? Because of this though, we do admit that since we bought back our build, it once again bought some conflicts that we have to resolve, but I can assure you that moving around works, moving between maps works, raising expertise works, we are able to create one dungeon instance, we also have summoning workable, and enemy spawns. We also have some GM tools. We can also even create chat commands for the chat box if we wanted to. Fighting enemies seems to be on hold again however, since they changed the values around since the last time we messed with this project. This same issue seems to apply for skills as well.
There are a couple of things that we need the most: Capturing the content from the game, and people who have programming/development skills.
We only have a couple of months to get all the content from the game as it is now. And that's the big part: Getting the content. CAVE likes to make subtle changes to the game. So we will have to go around the game, move around the areas, capturing the data, whether it is field maps, towns, dungeons, small instances; talking to NPCs, fighting, and all the various systems that this game utilizes.
And that is not an easy task. Since it requires a lot of data to isolate this information. The more data we have, the easier it is to recreate this content. Now if we do miss out on some data, we can try to reverse-engineer the information to make it work, or if all else fails, wing-it and just hope it works out.
We are NOT MAKING ANY MONEY FROM THIS. Because of this fact, a lot of stuff will be open that was previously closed, like the rental storages will now be permanent. And the cash points will be more of a daily gain that you get over time. If we do get a lot more people onto this project than we expected, we might ask for donations to maintain server costs, and that's about it.
We do admit we have different plans for this game, ultimately we are also thinking of re-balancing it because of how CAVE does not know how to restrain the escalation of enemies, difficulty, and gear that they set themselves for the last several years. We want to balance it so it will prevent that pitfall that CAVE themselves setup. Which means that we will be altering enemies, the gear, the systems, etc. A overhaul, so to speak. Which means that what might worked out before will now not, and you will be feeling that rub.
It may be possible to save some account information, but can't be sure of what might transfer.
Will continue in a moment...
