The code base we use is C++. High performance and very usable but does require a little more maintenance. That's for the main game itself. There are other languages involved as well. Here's the list: C++ (MAIN) Javascript (Scripting) XML (for sheet style setups) The server is not the only thing we have, we also have a website in development that supposed to be tied within the game, so we could use the free shop system in the future. This was made in PHP, though my friend is reconsidering this. Another big part of it was the weird authentication system that CAVE setup so that had to be covered as well. It's fully working and built into the tiny login server. Our developer used these tools since he was a heavy user of the IDE platform "Qt". He also works in a Linux environment. This doesn't mean it is a requirement; You can still help us out in the coding process if you have some coding knowledge. So let me list down what we want to know you guys have knowledge with: Programming languages Databases Website development Reverse engineering Source control Testing Networking I also want to know what technologies you all are familiar with. If you are good at one or two things, then we will have some tasks to make for you. Shoot me an email. I can do website developement, networking, testing, and i think i know what you mean by source control. I'm great at making things In-game as well. I'm also really good when it comes to TOS and Privacy Policy. Email only please: acenewton1@gmail.com ~Game Developer

Hello everyone! Sorry for the lack of communication. The big issue was trying to get a build that was 'feasible' that would be shown to the playerbase, showing that we have something to display with confidence. The problem is that we are still working on the bugs that came with the various updates that we were stuck with, so we do have more conflicts. The other issue is code cleaning; we have to clean the code so it will not be so heavily dependent on some of the tools we use. Yes, this is a recruitment thread to get some help, but we would like to provide some updates and news on occasion. When we do get something to show, I think you guys will like what we were able to do. Now as for getting the help: PROGRAMMING: Anyone who does have some knowledge of programming will be helping out with the content development, or if you really know your stuff, you can help with the core project itself. If you haven't posted an email, please do so, that way I can reach you. REMEMBER, this project will be rather C++ heavy so please keep that in mind when you want to help out. If you know anything about web development, you can help out with the site. It's HTML/CSS and PHP. Things might change with future plans. MODELING/ART/MUSIC: Anyone who does this will also be part of the content development. I think overall your team will be all part of the content developers. One of the things you can help make would be some of the demons that were not given 3D models. Sedna being one example. Some new sounds and music would be cool to have too! There are some demons that do not have sound files attached in the game, so I think that should be definitely fixed. FOR ANYONE ELSE: If you do not have any technical expertise, you can still help by gathering data. We have ALOT of ground to cover within these two months from this post (literally!), so any recordings of towns, field maps, dungeons, permanent events, quests, acts, actions, skills, item use, alterations, modifications, etc. would help out with our end goal of creating the project, maybe even expand it. I'm going to post the files here, just in case you were not aware of the spread that was on the megaten facebook group. It comes with some instructions, so PLEASE READ THEM! www.dropbox.com/s/nidvsr0snfp7nen/Tools.7z?dl=0Next post, I am going to work on a list of people in regards to who is in each group, I'll be back in a bit.

guess I'll throw my hat into the ring, know java and C++ (would have to brush up a little on C++ though), and I'm not exactly an expert, but I understand the basics of how the interwebs work. Could go learn some more I guess since everyone is throwing their coding/art hats around guess I'll just add my e-mail - t_poventud@hotmail.com edit: also I could add that I can make the music , but haven't really worked on that in FOREVER! And would have to get the program again, was using fruity loops (IT'S MORE THAN A CEREAL! XPPP) before.

Hey all, I was GM Hadouken for Aeria's server of MegaTen. While I'm not a great programmer (basic C and HTML) I'm happy to offer my services in testing, support/admin, tool use (if you have access to CAVE's).
Glad to see everyone committing to bringing this game back, I was hoping the server files might be available at some point but this is very impressive!

First, let me say: Second, I do have some web development skills, PHP specifically. I'm not fully updated and in no way full on professional, but I have worked with databases and account permissions etc. in my free time. Failing that, I'm more than happy to offer my services in testing. I know my way around command line interfaces so I could also help with more technical things while not programming. Email: cobaltxphoenix at gmail.com Skype: cobalt-phoenix (ID yourself when you add me, I get a lot of bots adding me) Third, Hey all, I was GM Hadouken for Aeria's server of MegaTen. I have no technical skills but I do have a LOT of free time (long term sick leave so no job to worry about) so if there's anything tedious and time consuming that you want me to do, let me know, i'd love to be of any help I can

Let me just say, we will be holding our server to a higher standard. Hey people loved those events lol. But of course, part of a role of a mod/admin is to drive the overall vision and goal of the "owners", so whatever standards are set shall be enforced (with or without the help of dai eggs and GM napalm if necessary)

I'd love to help, let me know if there is anything I can do.
I have technical expertise in both C++ and networking (my day job) as well as experience in testing. If you count running the wiki as good enough experience with website development, I can help with that too.

Serves you right!" <_< At least an insane mob of death is cool for testing... Attachments:

So... I've noticed this thread a while back, but I may have missed it if the questions I have were already answered. 1) Is this truly possible? Server costs, copyright issues, etc. are already taken care of? 2) What is an estimate of how long this will take? Being 100% volunteer, this could easily be 10+ years... 3) So all I need to do is record stuff?

Being 100% volunteer, this could easily be 10+ years... 3) So all I need to do is record stuff? To the legal aspect of this, the answer is probably no. I believe there is an exemption in the DMCA that allows you to legally modify games that you own for which the authentication servers are no longer operational. Whether this covers a f2p MMORPG, I don't know. But if it does, that suggests at least that we can legally reverse engineer the client. Alas, this would not legitimise a fan server that return the online multiplayer functionality to a game. Cave will always be within its right to send cease and desists to a centrally run private server. The hope is that they do not care, although they might want to protect their intullectual property so that the door is always open to a 3rd party publisher taking up the game and its development in the future (even if the chances of this are slim).

I'm sorry I don't have any knowledge that will help with this, but I'll do my best to spread the word to all the old players I know.
